Atomic No. 26: Iron, Man

Iron’s number on the atomic table is 26. In honor of today’s date, enjoy this cover of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” by the The Bad Plus.

In addition to their FANTASTIC original work, this jazz trio performs some of the coolest covers you’ve ever heard. They have one album of nothing but covers, For All I Care, which hits Pink Floyd, Wilco, Yes, the Bee Gees, Heart, and The Flaming Lips, among other folks. This album is the only 1 with a vocalist.

Among their other albums are scattered these rock covers:

  • Nirvana: “Smells like Teen Spirit”
  • Aphex Twin: “Flim”
  • Blondie: “Heart of Glass”
  • Pixies: “Velouria”
  • Rush: “Tom Sawyer”
  • Tears for Fears: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
  • Neil Young: “Heart of Gold”
  • David Bowie: “Life on Mars”
  • Interpol: “Narc”
  • Queen: “We Are the Champions”
  • Radiohead: Karma Police
  • “Chariots of Fire” theme (which is not a rock song, but you should hear it anyway)
