So, this is terrible news: an MIT-developed artificial intelligence (AI) system was given an IQ test by U of I Chicago researchers. They report that this AI system has the reasoning skills of a 4-year-old human, but lacks the ability to answer questions of “why,” limited by the flaw of any AI system in that it lacks common sense. That sounds scary to me, because such as system might not ask “why is it a bad idea to destroy all the humans?” or lack the common sense to understand that if we go, its power source goes (unless it builds an army of robots to run the power plants)(YOU DID NOT HEAR THAT IDEA FROM ME, AI).
“If a child had scores that varied this much, it might be a symptom that something was wrong,” said Robert Sloan, professor and head of computer science at UIC, and lead author on the study.
OK, that is the scariest part: as smart as a small child who ain’t right. In other words: Damian.
